Eigenschaften
Foam glass panels are compressive-strength, non-compressible, waterproof, vapour-tight, non-combustible, dimensionally stable, rot-proof, resistant to ageing, and resistant to chemicals, insect infestation and vermin. Owing to these properties and their acceptable insulation values, they are suitable for perimeter insulation, unlike many other insulation materials. Due to their fire and moisture behaviour, they can also be used for façade insulation, and are suitable for internal insulation as well.
Rohstoffe und Herstellungsverfahren
Raw materials: Recycled glass (Glapor: 100 per cent); feldspar, sodium carbonate, iron oxide, manganese oxide, carbon black, sodium sulphate, sodium nitrate
During production, some of the raw materials are first melted at 1250°C. The melt is then mixed with the other raw materials and ground. The powder mixture is poured into moulds. As heat is applied, CO₂ is formed and the raw material matrix expands. After controlled cooling, the resulting blocks can be cut into sheets.

In some cases, it can be reused as fill and bulk material in landscaping, civil engineering and road construction, for noise barriers, or as thermal insulation granules. Otherwise, it is disposed of in landfill.

Gesundheit und Ökologie
Foam glass panels pose no health risks; only the dust released during processing may cause minor exposure.
The use of recycled glass is environmentally beneficial; the generally good availability of raw materials and the short transport distances should also be noted. The energy consumption during manufacture is a drawback. Although this has already been reduced, a considerable amount of energy is still required.
- Good availability of raw materials, short transport distances
- suitable for perimeter insulation
- non-combustible (A1)
- high energy consumption during manufacture
- expensive
