Eigenschaften
The flexible, nanoporous aerogel mats are characterised by their very low thermal conductivity. This means they can be used in a space-saving manner. Furthermore, the mats can help with sound insulation.
Spaceloft mats are primarily used for building insulation. They are used to insulate internal and external walls, rear-ventilated façades, window reveals, roller shutter boxes, flat roofs, terraces, floors and roof hatches. Cryogel and Pyrogel mats, on the other hand, are used specifically for technical insulation. Cryogel mats with a built-in vapour barrier are suitable for refrigeration applications, whilst Pyrogel mats are designed for high-temperature applications.

In some cases, aerogel mats can be recycled; otherwise, they are disposed of in a landfill.

Gesundheit und Ökologie
There is little information available on the health and environmental aspects of aerogel mats. However, the manufacture of the mats requires a high level of energy input. During the installation of the mats, product dust may be released, which can cause irritation to the mucous membranes and upper respiratory tract. Apart from this, there are no known health concerns, but there is a lack of long-term experience.
