Eigenschaften
Neptunball fibres can help with thermal and acoustic insulation and contribute to heat protection in summer. Like many other eco-friendly insulation materials, this material also has the ability to absorb and release moisture, thereby improving the indoor climate. It is certified as rot-proof and pest-resistant.
This blow-in insulation can be used to insulate upper floor slabs, for façade insulation behind cladding, for between-rafter insulation behind finishing boards, for internal insulation and for insulation in timber-frame construction (walls, roof). When used as loose-fill insulation, it can be applied to insulate upper floor slabs or timber beam ceilings.
Rohstoffe und Herstellungsverfahren
Raw materials: Neptune balls (a type of seaweed)
Neptune balls are found all around the Mediterranean; they wash ashore and are usually disposed of at local landfill sites for aesthetic reasons. The material is collected, the sand, stones and other debris are removed mechanically, and the Neptune balls are crushed and packaged by the manufacturer in Karlsruhe.

Legal provisions §§:
Blown-in insulation is only considered insulation within the meaning of building regulations if it has been installed by specialist contractors who have been trained in its use by the relevant manufacturer and are included on a list. If installed by a DIY enthusiast themselves, the material is insulating but, from a legal perspective, does not constitute insulation. In the event of damage (e.g. fire), there could be problems with insurance claims. Furthermore, any subsidies are forfeited for structures in which self-installed blow-in insulation has been used. Even in the case of ‘KfW-x’ buildings or new builds, these insulation materials must not be included in the calculations made by energy consultants or architects.
Gesundheit und Ökologie
The insulation material is free from additives and, for this reason amongst others, poses no risk to health or, above all, to the environment. The absence of additives, its compostability and the fact that it is a renewable product are all factors in its favour from an environmental perspective. However, a drawback is the long transport distances, as the raw material is found only in the Mediterranean region.
- no additives
- sound-absorbing
- renewable
- moisture-regulating
- summer heat protection
- compostable
- long transport distances (from the Mediterranean)
- moderate thermal conductivity
